Our vision is that through our approach to early childhood education:
· Every child is met with dignity in the early years of life.
· All children be provided an environment to build a healthy body, allowing them to develop into self-directed human beings with creativity, imagination and social capacities.
· Those who care for and welcome the young child are supported and respected.
We offer a full time, year round childcare/ early education program for children from three months to five years. Our curriculum of care is informed by Waldorf education and the principles developed by pediatrician Emmi Pikler. Children benefit from a daily rhythm, healthy foods, ample time for play, and plenty of time outdoors discovering their world, accompanied by skilled and loving educators
Parent Child Classes are a way for families to strengthen themselves through education and community. Parent child classes support the development of parents’ self-confidence and trust in their abilities, whatever choices are made to best support their children and families.
Sophia's Hearth is the first program in North America with a birth-to-three specialization preparation embedded in its full teacher education program.
We offer professional development opportunities that range from one-day weekend workshops to three or five-day Summer Institute courses, to a full Waldorf early childhood teacher education program.
As the pandemic continues we are committed to maintaining as much programming as we can while ensuring the safety of staff and participants.
Childcare continues to run with smaller class sizes and masks for all adults. Visitors to the building are limited to 'essential only' and they are required to wear masks.
Our programs for teachers have moved to a distance learning model. It is our hope that we will be able to gather together in Summer 2021, although an official decision won't be made until May 1, 2021.
