An Introduction to the Primitive Reflexes through the Lens of Spacial Dynamics®

About the Course

VIA ZOOM

To help the baby during their initial adjustment to earthly life, the primitive reflexes provide a means of responding to the world with preordained movements.  They help keep the baby alive, make substantial contributions to brain development, help the baby orient to the three dimensions of space, and serve many other functions as well.  The reflexive patterns are the canvas over which acquired movements are painted.  Gradually over time, children give their signatures to their movement paintings—their movements become individualized and voluntary instead of reflexive, i.e., the reflexes are said to become integrated. The reflexes then remain as a protective background whereby they rarely manifest, and then only to be of service to the person or during moments of high stress.

Unfortunately when lack of healthy movement opportunities are the norm early in life, this painting is not sufficiently taking place initially, or the paint gets chipped away at a later point in time due to high stress and trauma in the child’s life, and the canvas is exposed again.  The result is recurring manifestations of the primitive reflexes, which can hinder physical, soul, and spiritual development. We will cover behaviors commonly seen when this happens.

This workshop will offer participants a unique spatial understanding of the primitive reflexes, how to see them when they manifest in daily life, how to observe whether they are becoming integrated, and how to support their integration in the children one is caring for, as well as in one’s self!  Individual reflexes will be described. Recent brain research regarding the role of the brain and reflexive movement will be covered, and this will likely surprise participants!  Jane brings a  rich background of experience from her many years of working with children of all ages and their families.

It is nice to pair this workshop with a second workshop offered by Jane next month, although it can also be taken alone.

This workshop will be recorded. A link to the recording will be available for 30 days after it is sent. All paid registrants will received access to the recording.
