: Creative Discipline – Reframing Discipline Using Sensory Strategies
If the noise for one toddler is “too loud”, in fact, so loud that it evokes a physiological response which leads to a complete inability to cope in a seemingly innocuous social situation, what’s a parent or teacher to do? Another toddler may thrive in the exact same environment. Indeed, sensory experiences are very individual and they change over time. We tend to expect that everyone else experiences sensation as we do.
In this workshop we will come to understand the wide ranging differences in sensory preferences. We will learn to recognize, interpret, influence and address challenging and unusual behaviors that indicate sensory conditions and needs.

Facilitating Parent-Child Classes – Exploring Our Questions and Experiences
This workshop will offer participants the opportunity to delve deeply into the various aspects of facilitating parent infant/toddler groups. We will spend time exploring our relationship with parents: what is our inner experience and how do we meet parents in an collaborative atmosphere? We will deepen our understanding of the parent infant/toddler group format as we now practice it and how might we shift the format to meet expanding needs. We will explore the use of lullabies, touching games, lap games, and gesture games from a developmental perspective. We will explore all the possibilities for relationship building within the snack time ritual.
Participants will be asked to bring a written description of their programs as they exist and reflections on what is working and where their challenges lie. These reflective pieces will be presented and used as an opportunity to support each other in our work.
